Thames Water is fined a record £20MILLION for polluting the River Thames

This important story has been featured not only on TV but in the national press such as the Daily Mail, the International Business Times and the Guardian.

The Daily Mail provides a table illustrating that Thames Water is NOT the only Water Utility that have had fines handed down after prosecutions brought by the Environment Agency.

The comments in the Daily Mail and the Guardian are well worth reading if you have the time to do so!

The real issue is whether a fine of £20million is sufficiently large to act as a deterrent against repeat occurrence by these Water Utilities, not just Thames Water.

If the decision-makers been fined instead (through lifting the “corporate veil”), then this disgraceful incident may not have occurred.
