ITV : “Energy Bills: Can We Be Smarter?” – A review (Spoiler Alert!)

The previous article https://stopsmartmetersharingey.wordpress.com/2017/02/06/itv-energy-bills-can-we-be-smarter/ introduced the programme that was shown on ITV last Thursday 2 February 2017.

Two articles are worth reading as well, see here and here

Let’s review the programme from the perspective of the campaign:

The rollout costs could be as much as £12 billion;

These costs are included in bills and the Smart Meter is NOT free;

Dan Lewis of the Institute of Directors was interviewed. He is co-author of “Not too clever: will Smart Meters be the next Government IT disaster?”

What was disappointing about the programme was:

It didn’t cover Smart Water Meters;

No other disadvantages of Smart Meters were mentioned, see here.

Nevertheless, it is gratifying that a programme was aired at prime time about Smart Meters.

It interviewed people who are critical of the Smart Electricity/Gas Meter installation programme. It is an important landmark in raising awareness that the Smart Meter does come with a cost and may prompt viewers to research the disadvantages in more detail.

Looking at the number of signatures to the national petition, it has risen from around 9,500 before the programme was aired to around 10,500.
